Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our blind flavor-guessing tradition, small-batch inquiry process, storage care, and visiting our West 28th Street studio in Minneapolis.

How does the “Can you guess the flavor at first bite?” experience work?

Every Copperfinch confection is poured with two or three distinct thermal stages so the flavor evolves as it dissolves—starting with an opening spark, shifting mid-palate, and settling into a warm center finish. To keep your eyes from prejudging what your tongue tastes, we mark individual wrappers only with a batch number (#01 through #06). Inside the bottom of your box sits a wax-sealed cotton envelope containing our confectioners’ tasting notes so you and your guests can compare your guesses after tasting.

Why don’t you publish ingredient lists or exact flavor formulas on the website?

Part of the signature enjoyment of Copperfinch Confections is the element of pleasant mystery—discovering unexpected orchard, woodland, botanical, and toasted-hearth notes without reading a spoiler list beforehand. Because we do not publish exact compositions online, if you or a guest have any specific dietary questions or sensitivities, please call our studio directly at +1 (612) 871-5157 or write to info@xarvexo.cyou before placing an inquiry. Since Clara and Julian pour every batch personally, we can answer your questions directly.

Why is there no shopping cart or instant checkout on your website?

We are a working two-person confectionery studio, not an automated warehouse. Every kettle batch yields only forty to sixty pieces. Rather than letting pre-made boxes sit on shelves for months, we accept order requests through our Order Inquiry Form. Once we receive your request, we reply by email within one business day to confirm batch availability, pouring dates, and shipping or Minneapolis pickup details.

Can I pick up my batch in person in Minneapolis?

Yes. Local pickup is available at our workshop at 4304 W 28th St, Minneapolis, MN 55416, USA during our counter hours (Wednesday through Saturday, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM Central Time) or by appointment on Monday and Tuesday. Simply mention in your inquiry message that you prefer studio pickup.

Do you ship outside Minnesota across the United States?

Yes, we ship cushioned small-batch parcels across the United States. Each lollipop and jar is packed in custom fluted kraft cradles to protect sharp geometric facets and wooden sticks during transit. During warm summer weeks, we ship Monday through Wednesday with insulated liners so your confections arrive crisp and clear.

How should I store my lollipops and prism drops once they arrive?

Store your confections in a cool, dry cabinet away from direct sunlight and stove steam at room temperature (60°F–70°F / 15°C–21°C). Keep individual wrappers sealed until the moment you taste, and keep jar or tin lids tightly closed between servings. Never place hard candy in the refrigerator or freezer, as condensation will dull the glass finish. For more details, read our guide to storing artisan confectionery.

Why do two lollipops from the same batch have slightly different swirl patterns?

Because every piece is poured onto a marble slab, folded with hand palettes, and coiled or sheared by hand during a nine-minute cooling window, the ribbons of color move organically. Just like blown studio glass or natural Lake Superior agates, no two pieces will ever have identical marbling—though both share the same three-stage flavor progression.

Can I request a custom batch for a dinner party, milestone gathering, or client gift?

Absolutely. Many of our guests order multiple First-Bite Guessing Flight Boxes or custom-labeled tasting sleeves for anniversary dinners, architectural & gallery evenings, and client appreciation gifts. For orders of five or more boxes, we recommend submitting your inquiry at least 10 to 14 days in advance so we can schedule a dedicated kettle pour for your date.
